As a registered RHS teaching centre, Lackham is the perfect place to study horticulture and landscape gardening. Our popular courses are for school leavers, professionals looking to upskill and amateur enthusiasts alike, with full-time and part-time study available alongside apprenticeships. And with a growing skills-gap in the industry, now is an exciting time to study horticulture at Lackham.
Lackham, set in 1600 acres of Wiltshire countryside, encompasses a 200-year-old Walled Garden, modern glasshouses, manicured lawns and gardens as well as sports-pitches, ornamental walkways, woodlands and wetlands. With the outdoors as your classroom, you’ll have access to unparalleled industry-leading resources.
Horticulture isn’t just about gardening. As a horticultural professional, you could be designing and landscaping, working on sports grounds, growing and selling plants or even producing new hybrid species.
Supported by knowledgeable lecturers, assessors and the Gardens team, you’ll learn how to name, identify and select plants as well as how to care for them, use and maintain different machinery, how to develop hard landscapes and understand key business practices.
The excellence of our practical teaching in horticulture is demonstrated by outstanding student success stories. For the past three years, our Horticulture and Landscaping students and apprentices have enjoyed success at one of the world’s most prestigious competitions: earlier this academic year, apprentice Jamie Franklin won a silver medal in the landscaping final of WorldSkillsUK after impressing judges with his show garden. The previous year, Level 3 Horticulture student Doug Beck secured his place in the final after tough qualifying rounds and in 2017, former apprentice Adam McGarry won Gold in the same category.
If a career in horticulture is for you, Lackham is the place to make it bloom.
