Access to Land-based Studies (Entry Level)
We offer a variety of pathways into the land-based industries for learners working at entry level and level 1. Visit our Access to Land-based Studies department page to find out more.
Whether you are a rider or non-rider, as an equine student at Lackham you’ll have regular access to some of the best equine facilities in the area.
Practical sessions are taught in two local yards, where you’ll build your skills and confidence in handling, grooming and tacking up as well as riding. Alongside your practical learning, performing yard duties will help give you the experience necessary for a career in the competitive equine industry.
Your hands-on skills will be supported with essential learning in areas such as anatomy, physiology, stable yard and stud management, nutrition, animal behaviour and welfare, event management, competition grooming, tack and equipment.
The College also holds links to local and national industry providers. Each year our students undertake a residential at the Badminton Horse Trials, working alongside Kelvin Bywater building the showjumping arena.
Our knowledgeable and experienced lecturers will help you build both your practical skills and the underpinning theory, and support you in finding the perfect industry placement to make your dreams a reality: a recent student found her placement at Oliver Townend’s yard, where she was offered a permanent position.
We offer Horse Care and Management at levels 2 and 3.
