If you are passionate about starting a career in the animal industries, Lackham is the place to be. Part of a £9million investment into the campus has transformed the facilities we use to teach our popular animal courses: our wide range of domestic and exotic animals are now housed in new, zoo-level enclosures, giving our students industry experience and cutting-edge practical learning as standard.
The new Animal Resource Centre is home to rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, birds, rats, lizards and tarantulas, wallabies, racoons, lemurs and more. It also includes a Blue Cross Rehoming Centre, a dog grooming parlour and a zoological garden. Your classroom learning will be enriched and consolidated with regular practical activities and routine duties in the animal centre, allowing you to put theory into practice and build your confidence.
You’ll also have the opportunity of a lifetime to travel abroad, with past trips taking our students as far as Borneo, Costa Rica, South Africa and Namibia. There also many experiences closer to home, including a residential at Monkey World with the Jim Cronin Memorial Fund and working on social science cetacean surveys with the Whale & Dolphin Conservation.
Work placements are an integral part of our animal courses, giving you a deeper understanding of industry practice and preparing you for your career, wherever it may take you. Past students have gone into veterinary nursing, zoo-keeping and more, and our two new HNDs in Animal Management could be the perfect stepping-stone for you to continue your studies after level 3.
